"Gold Coast Jazz Society Meets the Endowment Challenge!"

At its 20th anniversary celebration in January of 2004, the Community Foundation of Broward recognized the Gold Coast Jazz Society as one of five local nonprofits that met the “all or nothing” Kresge Endowment Challenge one year ahead of the deadline. Collectively, these organizations raised nearly $2 million. The Gold Coast Jazz Society raised $100,000 and an additional $33,333 from the Kresge Foundation was added to the organization's endowment fund upon completion of the Kresge Challenge.
For more than two years, the Community Foundation of Broward Foundation has worked with the Gold Coast Jazz Society and 17 other local nonprofits on the endowment challenge – coordinated in partnership with The Kresge Foundation in Detroit. The Community Foundation has a pool of $2 million through which it can provide $1 match for every $3 an organization raises. The purpose of the challenge was to have the participating organizations take a long-range look at their mission and goals and effectively plan for resources that will be needed in the future. The results will benefit Broward County for decades to come with improved programs and social services. |
